EVANSTON, Ill. — The University of Iowa women’s tennis team finished up day one of action at the Wildcat Winter Duals on Friday held on the Campus of Northwestern University.
“We knew coming into this tournament what the level of difficulty was going to be like, and to be honest we had a lousy first day and were not very sharp,” said Iowa’s head coach Katie Dougherty.
Senior Ruth Seaborne came up short in a loss to Veronica Corning of Northwestern, 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (5). Seaborne is the No. 56-ranked singles player in the country.
“This tournament gives us the opportunity to get high level matches in before we start the dual match season. We get a fresh start tomorrow and another opportunity to get better.”
The Hawkeyes return to the Combe Indoor Tennis Center on Saturday for a matchup with DePaul University. Doubles begin at 1:00 p.m. (CT) with singles to follow.
