IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa baseball team returns to action Tuesday, hosting Milwaukee in a midweek matchup at 6 p.m. (CT) at Duane Banks Field.

The Hawkeyes bring a five-game winning streak into the contest after posting a three-game series sweep over South Dakota State last weekend in Iowa City. Iowa outscored the Jackrabbits, 18-7, during the three games.

The Panthers are 16-18 overall after taking 2-of-3 games from Youngstown State last weekend. Milwaukee is 4-13 on the road this season.

Iowa will hand the ball to freshman right-hander Jake Reinhardt for his first career start. The Des Moines, Iowa, native is 1-1 with a 5.06 ERA in five appearances this season, but has tossed just 5 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on 10 hits.

The Panthers will counter with sophomore Cal Haley. The right-hander is 0-0 with a 6.10 ERA in 11 appearances, allowing nine runs (seven earned) on 14 hits over 10 1/3 innings. It will be Haley’s first start of the year.

Milwaukee is hitting .285 as a team with two every day players hitting above .300. Ryan Soldberg is leading the squad with a .355 average, 10 doubles, five home runs and 30 RBIs, while Ryan McShane is hitting .322.

Tuesday’s game will be the 17th meeting in the all-time series between Iowa and Milwaukee. The Panthers lead the all-time series, 9-7, which includes a 10-3 victory last season in Iowa City.

Iowa is 3-2 in midweek games this season, where it is hitting .287 and averaging 5.8 runs per game. Jake Yacinich (.476), Dan Potempa (.444) and Eric Toole (.409) are all above .400 individually with Toole driving in a team-high eight runs. The Hawkeye pitching staff has a 4.70 ERA over 46 innings.

The Hawkeyes return to Big Ten Conference play May 3-5 at Ohio State. Iowa is currently in seventh place in the league standings with a 7-8 conference record with nine games remaining in the regular season.
