IOWA CITY, Iowa –The University of Iowa women’s tennis team makes its fall debut Friday in Greenville, South Carolina. The Furman Fall Classic is a three-day tournament at the Mickel Tennis Center, on the campus of Furman University.
“We’ll see some of the best teams in the country this weekend.” Said UI head coach Katie Dougherty. “This is a great opportunity to compete against top players and teams in the ACC and SEC that we don’t see during the year.”
In addition to Iowa, the six other tournament participants include Alabama, Tennessee, Clemson, South Carolina, Florida State, and 2015 NCAA Champion Vanderbilt. In all, 12 tournament participants are ranked in the ITA preseason poll.
“The fall season is about growth in our players’ games, being match ready, and preparing for the spring. Playing great competition is a big part of this and our team is ready to get started,” said Dougherty.
The Iowa lineup includes Montana Crawford, Annette Dohanics, Zoe Douglas, Adorabol Huckleby, Natalie Looney, Anastasia Reimchen, Carin Runefelt, Taylor Tamblyn, and Aimee Tarun. Huckleby, Looney, Runefelt, and Tamblyn are making their Iowa debuts.
