IOWA CITY, Iowa –– University of Iowa softball sophomore Allison Doocy was selected as the College Sports Madness Big Ten Player of the Week, it was announced Monday. It is the second time this season the sophomore has received the honor.
Doocy was named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week on Monday afternoon for her performance in Iowa’s series sweep of Wisconsin, where she was 2-0 in the circle on April 8 and 9.
Doocy allowed just one hit in her third shutout of the season during Saturday’s performance. The sophomore led Iowa to a 3-0 shutout win over Wisconsin on Saturday and a 5-3 victory for the sweep on Sunday. Doocy recorded a 1.50 ERA and allowed 10 hits and eight walks in a combined 14 innings pitched.
Doocy racked up 18 strikeouts over the weekend, bringing her season total to 147. She ranks second in the Big Ten with a 1.36 ERA and third with 147 strikeouts.
Doocy and the Hawkeyes take the field again on Tuesday in a doubleheader at Nebraska. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. (CT) at Bowlin Stadium in Lincoln. Both games will air live on BTN.
