IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa softball team fell 9-0 in five innings to the Purdue Boilermakers Saturday afternoon at Pearl Field.

Senior Allie Wood and junior Mallory Kilian led the Hawkeyes at the plate. Wood was 3-for-3 on the day, hitting two singles and a double in the contest. Kilian went 2-for-3 with singles in the first and third innings.

Purdue jumped on the board early, plating four runs in the first inning. The Boilermakers scored two runs before Emily Kenny hit a two run home run to left field. Purdue added five more runs to the board in the fifth inning on three hits and three Hawkeye errors.

Allison Doocy (13-14) suffered the loss. The sophomore gave up three runs on two hits in the first inning before being replaced by junior Erin Riding who allowed one run in the first. Freshman Laruen Shaw finished the game for the Hawkeyes. She tossed three strikeouts in 4.1 innings of work.

QUOTING HEAD COACH MARLA LOOPER
“We had what we needed with runners on and chances to score, but unfortunately we didn’t execute. We get to come back out here and play on Senior Day. It’s a great opportunity to step on the field and be better tomorrow than we were today.”

“We had a phenomenal turnout for Alumni Day with four decades of alum. People forget that none of us have the opportunity to play the game today without the foundation that was laid by our alumni. The youth of today need to understand who paved the way for them.”
