HEAR FROM COACH GILLISPIE

“Our team came back with a lot of grit and fight. Offensively, we were doing the little things right that we needed to do, we just came up short. It wasn’t ours today, we are looking towards tomorrow and excited about that game.”

HOW IT HAPPENED

Northwestern wasted no time in the first, scoring four runs off of two doubles and a home run.

Freshman Kate Claypool gave the Hawkeyes a spark with a triple in the third inning. Aralee Bogar brought home Claypool with an RBI single to put Iowa on the board.

The Hawkeyes threatened in the fifth inning but couldn’t muster any runs. Freshman Abby Lien drew a walk, and junior Alex Rath came into pinch run for Lien.

Freshman Sydney Owens advanced Rath on a bunt and junior Havyn Monteer contributed a SAC bunt, advancing both runners. Iowa stranded both on base.

Iowa kept fighting in the sixth, scoring its second run. Lien notched an RBI single, scoring junior Lea Thompson, who reached base on a walk.
