Hawkeyes Fall to Maryland, 10-2

COLLEGE PARK, Maryland — The University of Iowa softball team was defeated, 10-2, in six innings by the Maryland Terrapins on Saturday afternoon at the Maryland Softball Stadium.  

Sophomore Denali Loecker got the start for the Hawkeyes in the circle throwing two innings. Freshman Emma Henderson threw 3.2 innings in relief. 

Henderson was 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI. Sophomore Marissa Peek was 2-for-2 with an RBI.  

HOW IT HAPPENED 

Maryland scored three runs in the first inning off three hits and an error. The Terrapins added three runs with four hits in the second frame.  

The Hawkeyes plated two runs in the fourth. Senior Riley Sheehy singled to left field and Henderson singled and scored her from first.  

 

A solo home run in the bottom of the fourth extended the Terrapins lead. Maryland added two runs in the fifth with three hits and an error and an RBI double in the sixth ended the game.

Iowa (16-15, 0-5) concludes the series with Maryland (17-15, 4-1) on Sunday at 11 a.m. (CT).
