Black Takes Game 2 of Black and Gold Series

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Black team defeated the Gold team, 6-2, in the second game of the black and gold series.

For the Black team, freshmen Tory Bennett, Tristan Doster, and sophomore Emma Henderson each recorded an RBI. They were also able to score two in the fifth and one in the sixth to extend their lead.

Freshman Kelsey Winters was the starting pitcher for the Black team going the first two innings and holding the Gold team to one run. Sophomore Emma Henderson entered the circle for the third and the fourth and recorded one strikeout and held Gold scoreless. Fifth year Breanna Vasquez closed out the final three innings for the Black team.

The gold team got RBIs from freshman Echo Mattiello and sophomore Rylie Moss.

Junior Denali Loecker was the starter for the Gold team, going three innings and surrendering one run and striking out two. The Gold team used the arms of sophomore Katherine Serna and freshman Sterling Berndt to close out the game.

The Black team finished the game with 6 runs on 7 hits and two errors. The Gold team finished with 2 runs on 5 hits and 1 error.

Iowa will take the field for the final time this fall for game three of the black and gold series on Thursday October 27 at Bob Pearl Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT. Admission is free.
