Hawkeyes Travel to Western Illinois for Midweek Matchup

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa softball team heads to Macomb, Illinois, on Wednesday at 4 p.m. (CT) for a midweek matchup with Western Illinois.

Iowa brings a 27-17 overall record into the contest while the Leathernecks are 8-27 overall.

Western Illinois is coming off a three-game conference series with South Dakota where they went 1-2on the weekend. They took game two of a Saturday doubleheader in eight innings (9-6).

As a team, the Leathernecks are hitting .237 and their pitching staff has a 4.59 ERA. They are led by Bella Alvarez, who is hitting .313 with 14 RBIs. In the circle, Emily Price has thrown 94.0 innings with a 3.05 ERA.

The Hawkeyes are coming off a three-game series with Maryland where they went 1-2. Overall Iowa is hitting .290 as a team and has a staff ERA of 2.28 and has held hitters to a .231 batting average against.

Iowa has three hitters hitting .300 or better, led by Nia Carter with a .474 batting average and is second on the team with 22 RBIs. Breanna Vasquez is leading the way in the circle with 15 wins and a 1.87 ERA. She has 115 strikeouts on the season and is 16 away from 400 in her career.
