Hawkeyes Top Indian Hills

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa softball team defeated Indian Hills Community College, 11-2, on Friday at Pearl Field in a 9-inning exhibition.

The Hawkeye bats were hot as they scored 11 runs on 20 hits. They had eight extra base hits and had RBIs from nine different hitters. Iowa plated four runs in the third, four in the fifth and three in the ninth. Six Hawkeyes recorded a multi-hit game including senior Grace Banes and sophomore Anna Streff who both went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Junior Devyn Greer went 3-for-5 at the plate with one RBI. Freshmen Georgia Lessmann and Soo-Jin Berry had back-to-back home runs in the ninth inning.

The Iowa pitchers struck out 13 Indian Hills hitters. Greer got the start in the circle for Iowa and went five innings. She allowed one run on two hits and struck out five Warrior batters. Junior Haley Downe entered in relief and went two innings allowing no runs and struck out three. Freshman Andrea Jaskowiak struck out five in two innings of work to close out the game.  

The Hawkeyes return to action on tomorrow, Saturday September 23 as they host Illinois State at Bob Pearl Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT and admission is free.
