Gold Takes Game 1 of Black and Gold Series

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Gold team defeated the Black team, 10-7, on the first night of the Black and Gold Series.

The bats were hot for the Gold team as they scored 10 runs on 12 hits. They scored runs in all but two innings. Junior Tatianna Roman and freshman Jena Young both hit home runs in the game. Young led the team with three RBIs. Five different players on the Gold team recorded RBIs. Sophomore Anna Streff had a two-RBI triple in the third inning.

The Gold team used four different arms in the game. Redshirt junior Maren Judisch got the start and went two innings allowing four runs on four hits and struck out two. Junior Haley Downe led the way in the circle going two innings allowing no runs on two hits and struck out one.

The Black team also used four arms in the circle. Junior Devyn Greer was the only pitcher to not surrender a run. She pitched a clean sixth inning allowing just one hit. Freshman Jaylee Ojo pitched the fourth and fifth innings and did not allow a hit but allowed two runs and struck out three hitters.

The Black team started the game strong scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning with RBIs from three different hitters. Senior Brylee Klosterman led the team going 1-for-2 with two walks, a home run, and two RBIs. They started a rally in the seventh scoring two runs, but the comeback came up short as the Gold team turned a game-ending double play. The Black team ended the game scoring seven runs on 10 hits.

Iowa returns to action next Thursday October 12 for game two of the Black and Gold Series. First pitch at Bob Pearl Field is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT. Admission to the game is free.
