Durham, NH – Bolstered by a four-goal first-half binge, the Iowa field hockey team picked up its first win of the season by burying Syracuse, 6-1. Pattie Gillern struck for a pair of goals in the win while Barb Weinberg turned away seven of the eights shots she faced.
With the game tied, 1-1, midway through the first half, Gillern, Lindsay Miller and Margot McMahon connected to give the Hawkeyes the 4-1 lead heading into the break. Gillern and Kara Zappone added goals in the second half to improve Iowa to 1-2 on the season.
