IOWA CITY – University of Iowa pitcher Nathan Johnson was selected in the 20th round of Major League Baseball’s 2004 First-Year Player Draft by the Philadelphia Phillies. He was the 602nd player taken overall.
Johnson, an Oskaloosa, IA, native, was a first team all-Big Ten selection as a senior after posting a 6-4 record and 3.36 ERA. The righthander threw a conference-high 96 1/3 innings and struck out 73 while walking only 16. In Big Ten play, Johnson was third in the league with a 2.28 ERA and threw five complete games.
