Three Former Hawkeyes to Tour New Zealand

IOWA CITY – Three former University of Iowa field hockey players will represent the United States next month when Team USA travels to New Zealand for a five-game series. This test series is to prepare Team USA for the Rabobank Champions Challenge, July 8-16 in Virginia Beach.

Sarah Dawson, Barb Weinberg and Kristin Holmes-Winn will all represent the Hawkeyes on the team.

Dawson and Weinberg were both first team all-Big Ten and all-Americans last season, leading the Hawkeyes to a co-Big Ten Championship and a spot in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1999.

Holmes-Winn was a two-time first-team all-American (1994, `96), three-time first team all-Big Ten performer (1994-96) and the 1996 Big Ten MVP. She is now the head coach at Princeton.

“It’s great to see a strong Hawkeye contingent on the U.S. team,” Iowa Head Coach Tracey Griesbaum said. “We’ve always had a Black and Gold tradition with the national team, and it is nice to see that continue.”
