The 2005 Black and Gold Basketball Blowout presented by Mediacom – the 14th edition of this annual event – will be staged inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena immediately after the Iowa-Michigan football game on Saturday, Oct. 22, which will kick off shortly after 11 a.m.
The Blowout will mark the first public scrimmage of Coach Steve Alford’s nationally ranked squad. Iowa’s first practice of 2005-06 — Friday at 7 p.m. — is also open to the public.
As at previous Blowout events, Alford will divide his team into two units that will play two 20-minute halves. Prizes ranging from souvenir merchandise available exclusively at the Blowout to pairs of tickets to select home games will be given away during the event.
All fans in attendance will receive a gift from the Iowa Hawkeyes as they enter the Arena. This year’s collector’s edition of Iowa Basketball trading cards will also be available.
Doors to the Arena will open shortly after 2 p.m. with activities tipoff scheduled tentatively for shortly after 3 p.m. The Hawkeyes will be available for photographs courtside prior to tipoff. General admission tickets priced at $5 each are available at the UI Athletic Ticket Office.
The Blowout is the first of two special events on the Hawkeyes’ 2005 pre-season calendar. Alford will open his team’s practice on Sunday, Oct. 30, to young fans dressed in costume for the second annual Halloween Hoops event. The UI Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will announce details of this special event later this week.
