Three Hawkeyes Named to Regional Teams

Three University of Iowa field hockey players were named today to the 2005 Dartfish/NFHCA All-Region teams. Senior Debbie Birrell, freshman Caitlin McCurdy and junior Heather Schnepf were named to teams in the West Region.

Schnepf was a first-team selection. The midfielder led Iowa with five defensive saves and led the Big Ten conference with 0.31 defensive saves per game.

Birrell was a second-team pick in the West Region. As a midfielder Birrell scored 23 points with eight goals and seven assists. Birrell had a career-high three-goal game against Pacific University early in the season. She was seventh in the conference with 0.39 assists per game.

McCurdy is a forward for the Hawkeyes and was also a second-team selection. She scored 28 points for Iowa with a team-high 11 goals and six assists. McCurdy also had three game-winners this season. She was second in the league with 3.61 shots taken per game with a total of 65 and was seventh with an average of 1.56 points scored per game.
