THIS WEEK — The Iowa women’s tennis team will travel to Coral Gables, FL, for the Miami Hurricane Invitational hosted by the University of Miami. Competition will take place at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center, Friday through Sunday.

THE HAWKEYES — Senior Mili Veselinovic is ranked 57th in preseason rankings and junior Hillary Mintz is ranked 123rd. Competing for the Hawkeyes will be Jennifer Barnes, Merel Beelen, Kayla Berry, Kelcie Klockenga, Jacqueline Lee, Mintz, and Veselinovic.

THE COMPETITION — Iowa will face competition from Miami, Clemson, Florida State, Florida Atlantic, and Florida International. Audra Cohen of Miami is ranked first in preseason rankings while Paula Zabala of Florida International is ranked 58th and Carolin Walter of Florida State is ranked 64th.

LAST SEASON — The Hawkeyes ended the 2006 season with a 9-1 Big Ten record, the best league record in the history of Iowa women’s tennis. Head Coach Daryl Greenan was named the Big Ten Coach of the Year. Iowa defeated Illinois in the first round of the Big Ten Championships (4-0) before falling to Michigan in the semifinals (4-3). The Hawkeyes faced Florida International at regionals, and were defeated, 4-1, in the first round. Iowa finished the season ranked 33rd nationally, with an 18-6 overall record.

HEAD COACH Daryl Greenan — Coach Greenan begins his third season as head coach of the Hawkeyes. Greenan led the Hawkeyes to an 18-6 overall record in 2006, going 9-1 in Big Ten competition for a second place league finish. Greenan has a 32-16 overall record in two seasons at Iowa. Toni Neykova is the assistant coach and begins her fifth season with the Hawkeyes.
