The STX – National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Preseason Poll was released today and the Iowa Hawkeyes are ranked 10th in the nation.
Defending national champion Maryland holds the top spot in the poll. The Terrapins received 18 of the 35 first place votes. The Big Ten and ACC tied having the most teams representing their respective conference with six. The Hawkeyes were the second-highest ranked team in the Big Ten after No. 7 Penn State.
Ten of the 20 ranked schools are on Iowa’s 2007 schedule. Six in Big Ten Conference play and four during non-conference. The Hawkeyes open regular season play Saturday with No. 2 Wake Forest and Sunday against No. 3 North Carolina in Ann Arbor, MI, as part of the Big 10/ACC Challenge. Their third game will be at No. 4 Duke on Sept. 2.
