FAIRFIELD, CT – The University of Iowa field hockey team defeated Sacred Heart 6-0 Saturday, for Head Coach Tracey Griesbaum’s 99th win of her career. Junior goalkeepers Lissa Munley and Melissa Helsel teamed-up for Iowa’s fourth shutout of the season. Junior Roz Ellis scored two goals, while junior Caroline Blaum recorded two assists.

“We had a very balanced game.” Head Coach Tracey Griesbaum said. “I thought our ball movement and our spacing on the attack was very solid. Once again, it was nice for different players to step up and spread-out our scoring.”

“Defensively Roz and Meghan Beamesderfer played very solid and controlled, making many defensive stops.” Griesbaum added.

During the sixth minute, the Hawkeyes were awarded their first penalty corner. Junior Lindsey Duffy received the pass from Tricia Dean scoring the first goal of the game, and Duffy’s fourth goal of the season. Blaum was also awarded with an assist on the play.

In the 26th minute, Dean scored her second goal of the season. She took the pass from freshman Sarah Pergine and slammed the ball past Sacred Hearts’ defense from the top of the circle. The assist is Pergine’s first point of her career.

Only two minutes remaining in the first half, Ellis scored Iowa’s third goal. The goal came from a Hawkeye penalty corner. Blaum recorded her second assist of the game on the play.

During the 46th minute, junior Caitlin McCurdy scored the fourth goal of the game. She received the pass from senior Adrienne Dybus and slipped the ball past the Pioneers’ goalkeeper. It is McCurdy’s second goal of the season and Dybus’ second assist of her career.

Ellis scored her second of the game and fourth of the season during the 49th minute. This marks the first game she has scored multiple goals in a game.

Junior Katie Naughton added the sixth and final Iowa goal of the game. She received the assist from Duffy.

Helsel took Munley’s place in goal during the 61st minute accounting for her first playing time of this season.

Iowa will try for Griesbaum’s 100th win of her career on Sunday, against Fairfield at 11 a.m. (CT) in Fairfield, CT.
