IOWA CITY-
The University of Iowa men’s gymnastics team was defeated by the Illinois Fighting Illini in a close finish Saturday in the UI Field House, 349.800 to 349.400.
As a team the Hawkeyes took three out of the six events, and had two first place finishes including Senior Curtis Kleffman in the all-around (86.45) and Geoff Reins on vault (16.15). Competing for last time in the UI Field House, Kleffman once again broke the 2008 season event high record in the all-around and also broke the record for pommel horse (14.65).
Iowa showed improvement on the pommel horse, with three Hawkeyes consecutively breaking the high score, including Joel Snyder, Jacob Becker and Kleffman. With a 57.90, Iowa scored its highest total in that event this season. The Hawkeyes also scored a team high (349.40), beating their previous high score by over ten points.
Iowa will travel to Lincoln, NE to compete against Nebraska Friday, March 14. Competition is scheduled for 7 p.m.
