MESA, AZ – The University of Iowa men’s golf team faced off against Scottsdale Community College, the defending National Junior College Division I national champions, Saturday. The exhibition dual match was held at Red Mountain Ranch Country Club.
Senior Todd Larson led the Hawkeyes Saturday firing a one-over par 73. Fellow seniors Dan Holterhaus and Adam Miller shot 77 and 81, respectively. Junior Cole Peevler shot an 18-hole score of 75 on the day. In addition, freshmen Vince India and Dusty Koth continued to see action. India pitched in with a 76 and Koth recorded an 82. John Guiney led the Artichokes with a one-under par 71.
“I was pleased with our effort this weekend,” said Head Coach Mark Hankins. “Competition is the best way to prepare for the rest of our spring schedule and Scottsdale CC has a great team. From top to bottom we were more consistent than they were but they had a couple nice scores (71, 72) that carried them to the win.”
Coach Hankins believes this exhibition dual match will help the Hawkeyes the rest of the way. “This helps to expose any competitive or physical weaknesses as we move closer to the bulk of our spring schedule. It was a successful weekend from that standpoint and we look forward to continued improvement from everyone.”
