Final Stats

IOWA CITY, IA – The University of Iowa field hockey team defeated Boston University Sunday at Grant Field, 5-1. The sixth-ranked Hawkeyes are now 6-2 on the season.

Caroline Blaum led the Hawkeye offense against the Terriers. She led Iowa with two goals and one assist on the afternoon. The first score of the game would come from Blaum. Roz Ellis hit Blaum and she chipped it home to make the score 1-0. The first half would end with Iowa leading 1-0.

The Hawkeyes came out firing in the second period. Caitlin McCurdy slammed home Iowa’s second goal of the game only 22 seconds into the period. One minute later, Blaum added her second goal of the afternoon. She blasted home a goal off a deflection, making the score 3-0.

Boston got on the board in the 42nd minute. Maryette Stuart passed it to Hayly Ross and Ross chipped home the Terriers’ first goal, making the score 3-1.

The Hawkeyes answered. In the 46th minute, Iowa scored off a beautiful corner. Lauren Pfeiffer slammed home Iowa’s fourth goal of the day. It was assisted by Blaum and Tricia Dean. Later in the 59th minute, the Hawkeyes would add another. Sarah Pergine chipped it home off a deflection, making the score 5-1 in favor of Iowa.

Iowa opens Big Ten Conference play Friday. The Hawkeyes will travel to Indiana to take on the Hoosiers at 2 p.m. (CT).
