IOWA CITY, IA – Three-time letterman Matt Bowen has been named honorary captain for Saturday’s game against Penn State. The Hawkeyes face the third-ranked Nittany Lions in a televised game with kickoff set for 2:37 p.m. in sold out Kinnick Stadium. It’s Iowa’s 36th straight home sellout.

Bowen, a defensive back from Glen Ellyn, IL, lettered in 1997-98-99. He was named second team all-Big Ten as a senior and played in the Blue-Gray and Hula Bowl all-star games. During his senior season he had led the Hawkeyes with 109 tackles, a total which ranked sixth in the Big Ten. He had 222 career tackles, which still ranks in the top 50 of Iowa’s all-time defensive leaders. He started the final 22 games of his career.

Bowen played seven years in the NFL with the St. Louis Rams, Green Bay Packers, Washington Redskins and the Buffalo Bills.

Bowen will accompany the Iowa captains to the center of the field for the pre-game coin-flip. He will also be with the Hawkeyes on the sidelines and in the locker room before and after the game.
