Iowa Finishes Day Two At Big Ten Championships

May 2, 2009

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA – The University of Iowa men’s golf team improved their position again during the third round of the 2009 Big Ten Championships Saturday. After 54 holes of play, the Hawkeyes are in third place with a score of 872 (+20). Illinois is leading the field after carding an 864 (+12). The tournament is being held on the Penn State Blue Course in University Park, PA.

The Hawkeyes are being led by Vince India. The sophomore is currently tied for 13th after recording a 219 (+6). Senior Cole Peevler put together his best round of the tournament and is sitting in a tie for 16th with a 54-hole total of 220 (+7). Additionally, sophomore Brad Hopfinger, along with freshmen Chris Brant and Barrett Kelpin, are all tied at 28th with scores of 223 (+10).

Head Coach Mark Hankins thought focus and execution were the reasons for Iowa’s success so far.

“The golf course played a little differently today and we adjusted nicely,” said Hankins. “We stayed true to our game plan of one shot at a time and stuck with it for all 18 holes.”

The tournament will conclude tomorrow with the final 18 holes beginning at approximately 7 a.m. CT.
