UI Students Invited to 'Tour'; Reminded of 'SportsNation'

Sept. 17, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa students will have their first of three opportunities to visit with members of the 2010-11 UI men’s basketball coaching staff Sunday night when the Hawkeyes stage the first of three stops on their “Great Campus Tour 2010.”

Sunday’s visit will be in the lounge at Hillcrest Hall beginning at 7 p.m. Pizza and soft drinks will be served while supplies last. A variety of “MAD” gifts will also be available. All students who purchase their 2010-11 UI men’s basketball season ticket at the event will receive an official “Let’s be MAD again” t-shirt; the first 25 UI students who make their purchase will also receive a student ticket to Iowa’s football games against Ball State and Penn State.

Visits to the UI’s Burge and Mayflower residence halls are planned for the following two Sunday nights, respectively.

A joint effort of the Hawks Nest – the official student section of the Iowa Hawkeyes – and the UI Athletics Department, the “Tour” is part of ongoing efforts to increase UI student support for the UI men’s basketball program and first-year head coach Fran McCaffery. Student season tickets sales for the upcoming season have already surpassed the total sold a year ago.

UI students are also reminded that the UI’s Hubbard Park will be one of four stops on the first-ever “Big Ten Road Trip” for ESPN’s popular SportsNation show featuring Colin Cowherd and Michelle Beadle.

SportsNation will be broadcast live from Hubbard at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 21. ESPN will also originate Cowherd’s daily radio show, The Herd with Colin Cowherd, from the same location on the UI campus beginning at 9 a.m.

Friends of the UI and fans of the Iowa Hawkeyes are invited to be part of the audience for the live broadcast of SportsNation. The first 1,000 to arrive at Hubbard at 2 p.m. will receive a free souvenir t-shirt featuring the official logo of the Hawkeyes’ “Throwback Game” against Ball State on Sept. 24. Tickets to all of Iowa’s remaining home football games and other door prizes will also be given away to randomly selected spectators.

Iowa City and the UI is the second of four stops for the SportsNation tour of select Big Ten campuses. It starts on Monday at the University of Wisconsin in Madison and continues with visits to the campuses of the University of Michigan and Penn State University.
