IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa men’s swimming team hosted Truman State for the first regular season meet. The event was also the first official swim meet at the new Campus Recreation and Wellness Center (CRWC). The Hawkeyes claimed the first-place title with a score of 180-75.

The men kicked off the meet by sweeping the 200 medley relay. The team of seniors Max Dittmer, Sean Hagan, sophomore Byron Butler and junior Ryan Phelan claimed first-place in the event with a time of 1:31.99. The three other Iowa relays followed placing, second, third and fourth.

Freshman Dustin Rhoads won his first collegiate event as a Hawkeye in the 100 back. Rhoads finished with a time of 50.96. Sophomore Jordan Huff finished in second with a time of 52.79. Junior Duncan Partridge earned first place in the 200 free (1:42.08) and 100 free (46.57).

Byron Butler, who set a new school record last season in the 200 back (1:46.11), won the event at tonight’s meet with a time of 1:50.25. Freshman Kyle Noser posted his first collegiate win in the 200 IM, winning his heat by nearly six second with a time of 1:57.05.

With only two events left in the meet, Iowa led Truman State 160-60.

Iowa ended the meet with a win in the 400 free relay. The team of junior Paul Gordon, Phelan, freshman Devon Meeks, and Dittmer recorded a time of 3:03.35.

“It was an awesome first meet,” said Head Coach Marc Long. “We were happy to see the newcomer’s race, but like we always say it’s a long season. We have a great Wisconsin team coming in next week. It will be the first meet the divers are competing in this season, so it will be great to see them compete.”

The Hawkeyes will begin conference meets next Friday when the team hosts Big Ten rival Wisconsin. The event will start at 5 p.m. in the CRWC.
