Wildcat Invitational Closes With Singles Play

EVANSTON, Ill. – Play concluded at the Wildcat Invitational Sunday for the University of Iowa women’s tennis team. Iowa finished the day 5-3 overall in singles. The Hawkeyes top individual was senior Alexis Dorr, who finished second in the Flight B singles bracket. No doubles were played Sunday.

In singles play, junior Cassandra Escobar fell to Jana Knoppe of Illinois-Chicago 2-6, 6-1, 6-2. Fellow junior Ally Majercik posted a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Western Michigan’s April Kerr. Dorr defeated Christiana Raymond of DePaul 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 in a semifinal matchup before losing to Wisconsin’s Jenny Hois 6-4, 6-3 in the Flight B championship. Senior Jessica Young won 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 against Nida Hamilton of Northwestern. Freshman Christina Harazin downed Western Michigan’s Rachel Denny before falling to Olga Chernova of Michigan State 6-4, 7-6 (2). Senior Lynne Poggensee-Wei finished her tournament by winning a 0-6, 7-5, 6-4 decision over Maggie Remynse of Western Michigan.

The Hawkeyes will play again on Oct. 22 at the ITA Regionals.
