DeLand, Fla. — The University of Iowa softball team scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to rally for a 3-2 victory over Stetson in the team’s second game of the day at the Stetson Hatter Classic. It was the team’s sixth straight win to push its record to 14-10 on the year.

Senior Jenny Schuelke started the Hawkeye rally with a one-out single, and Nikki Gentile followed with a walk to put two runners on base. After an Ashley Akers groundout advanced both runners, Katie Keim reached on an error by Stetson shortstop Chelsey Trotto to plate Schuelke. Freshman Michelle Zoeller followed with an RBI single through the right side to knock in Gentile to give Iowa the 3-2 lead.

Sophomore Chelsea Lyon retired the Hatters in order in the bottom of the seventh inning, including striking out Katelyn Perna to end the game. Lyon evened her record at 7-7 on the year with her complete game victory, allowing two runs on five hits to go along with six strikeouts.

Iowa jumped on top early, plating a run in the top of the third inning. Gentile opened the frame with a double to left center before moving up a base on a wild pitch. Akers tallied the RBI with a groundout to first base.

Stetson grabbed the advantage, plating two runs in the fifth inning. Brittany Knipp, who walked to open the inning, scored the first Hatter run on a failed pickoff attempt, and Katelyn Perna delivered an RBI single up the middle to give Stetson the 2-1 lead.

Five different Iowa players tallied hits in the game. Senior Chelsey Carmody extended her hitting streak to 24 games with a sixth inning double down the left field line. Carmody was 1-for-4 in the game.
