IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa softball team will open its fall season Friday night, hosting Iowa Central Community College at Pearl Field beginning at 6 p.m. Admission is free.
Marla Looper is entering her second season as the head coach for the Hawkeyes. She returns five starting positional players, pitchers Chelsea Lyon and Kayla Massey and a total of 11 letterwinners. She also added eight newcomers to her 2011-12 squad.
The Hawkeyes will play four home dates during the “fall ball” season with home games scheduled for Sept. 9, Sept. 16, Sept. 30 and Oct. 7.
