IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa senior catcher Liz Watkins has been selected to the 2012 Big Ten preseason all-conference second team by College Sports Madness.
The Taylor Ridge, Ill., native is a three-time all-conference selection for the Hawkeyes, earning second team honors as a sophomore and junior and a third team distinction as a freshman. Last season, Watkins started all 51 games, finishing with a .294 batting average with 36 RBI, 28 runs and nine home runs.
Watkins has a .318 career batting average with 107 RBI and 68 runs scored. She is tied for fourth in UI history with 23 home runs and her 107 RBI are the 10th most in the record books.

The Hawkeyes open the 2012 season at the Getterman Classic in Waco, Texas, on Feb. 10-12. Iowa opens the season against Wichita State on Feb. 10 beginning at 12:30 p.m.
