Hawkeyes Conclude Competition at Wildcat Invite

EVANSTON, Ill. — The University of Iowa women’s tennis team wrapped up competition at the Wildcat Invitational Sunday. A number of matches were not played in accordance with the bracket to avoid competition between teammates.

“We have made a lot of progress this fall, individually and as a team,” said head coach Katie Dougherty. “We have competed better each week and made technical, tactical, and physical improvements. It’s great to have Silver back playing singles for us. She competed really well for us this weekend. Next will be a great test for us as we will be competing against some of the best players in the region.”

Ellen Silver picked up two wins on the day improving her overall fall singles record to 4-1. She topped Wohlstrom of Wisconsin, 6-1, 6-4. Silver then went on to beat Sujashvili of Western Michigan, 6-1, 6-4.

Annette Dohanics and Katie Zordani also secured wins for the Hawkeyes on Sunday. Dohanics defeated Umanet of Minnesota, 6-3, 6-3. Dohanics’ overall fall singles record is 8-2. Zordani topped Livadaru of Northwestern in two consecutive decisions, 6-1, 6-3.

Christina Harazin put up a tough battle against Fargas of DePaul. After winning the first set, she was topped in the remaining two, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3. Harazin posted a 6-4 singles record this fall.

The Hawkeyes will return to action Oct. 19 at the ITA Regionals in Tulsa, Okla.
