IOWA CITY, Iowa–The University of Iowa women’s tennis team fell to No. 7 Northwestern, 5-2, today at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex.
Junior Ruth Seaborne topped Northwestern’s 55th-rated Kate Turvy, 7-6, 3-6, 13-11. Seaborn’s victory at the No. 1 position marks her third win over a ranked opponent this seaon. Sophomore Shelby Talcott picked up the second point for the Hawkeyes at the No. 2 singles position, topping Veronica Corning, 6-3, 7-6. Talcott’s victory improves her season record to 6-3. Sophomore Morven McCulloch fell to No. 96 Belinda Niu 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 3 position.
No. 42 Seaborne and McCulloch fell to No. 8 Linda Abu Mushrefova and Nida Hamilton, 8-3, at the No. 1 position. Northwestern secured the doubles point, topping Talcott and Caitlin Hindmarsh, 8-2, at the No. 3 position.
The Hawkeyes will to return to action Sunday against No. 37 Illinois at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex. The match is set to begin at 12 p.m.
