UI Finishes Sixth at Big Ten Championships

INDIANAPOLIS — The University of Iowa women’s rowing team placed sixth at the Big Ten Championships held at Eagle Creek Park this past weekend.

Ohio State claimed the team title with 160 points, followed by Michigan (135), Wisconsin (134), Michigan State (85), Minnesota (72), Iowa (54), and Indiana (28).

Senior Katy Kroll was named first team All-Big Ten, while junior Laura Hallman was named to the second team. Senior Louise Benz was named the team’s Big Ten Sportsmanship honoree.

Iowa began the competition in the third Varsity 4’s, finishing in third place with a time of 8:03.577. The second Varsity 4’s then followed as the Hawkeyes took fourth place with a time of 7:52.281. The first Varsity 4’s concluded the Varsity 4 races with Iowa taking fifth in a time of 7:45.958.

In the Varsity 8’s category, Iowa finished in sixth with a time of 6:58.714 in the second Varsity 8’s. In the final race of the championships, the Hawkeyes took sixth place with a time of 6:51.504
