IOWA CITY, Iowa – The No. 11 University of Iowa women’s rowing team earned Big Ten Boat of the Week honors for the first varsity eight, the conference office announced Tuesday.
The Hawkeyes raced against No. 6 Michigan and No. 18 Michigan State at the Big Ten Double Dual on Saturday. Iowa raced against Michigan State in the morning, posting a 10-second margin over the Spartans and crossed the finish line in 6:17.7. In the afternoon session, the Hawkeyes battled against Michigan. Iowa crossed the finish line more than 12 seconds in front of the Wolverines.
The first varsity eight was comprised of Ashley Duda, Izzy Dolba, Kaelynn Heiberg, Hannah Greenlee, Hunter Koenigsfeld, Contessa Harold, Katie Pearson, Eve Stewart, Logan Jones (coxswain).
This is the first Big Ten Conference weekly honor for the Hawkeyes this season. The last boat to earn a Big Ten Weekly Honor was the second varsity four boat on April 25, 2014.
The Hawkeyes travel to Princeton, New Jersey, to compete against Princeton and Yale. Competition is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. (CT).
