EVANSTON, Illinois – The University of Iowa softball team dropped a 4-1 decision to Northwestern on Friday afternoon at Drysdale Field.

Seniors Allie Wood and Angela Schmiederer, sophomore Lea Thompson, and freshman Aralee Bogar all collected hits in the contest.

Northwestern took an early lead in the bottom of the first inning, scoring one run on two hits, but the Hawkeyes responded in the top of the second. Wood was behind in the count when she sent a solo shot over the left field fence to tie the game.

The Wildcats regained the lead in the third inning when a pair of RBI doubles and a RBI sac fly gave them the 4-1 advantage.
Freshman Lauren Shaw (3-12) suffered the loss, allowing four runs on five hits in three innings.  Junior Erin Riding entered the game in the fourth inning and collected three strikeouts in three innings.
QUOTING HEAD COACH MARLA LOOPER
“We had some solid hits so I feel like we were making solid contact. (Erin) Riding did a nice job of coming in for Shaw and settling Northwestern’s bats down.”
