Round 2 Complete at Erin Hills

24 Hawkeyes to Watch 2018-19 | Fight For Iowa | Results Round 2

HARTFORD, Wisconsin — The University of Iowa men’s golf team was disqualified on Monday at the Marquette Intercollegiate at Erin Hills due to not being able to post four scores. Iowa was near the top of the leaderboard with No. 12 Arizona State before the disqualification.

Junior Matthew Walker had to withdraw from Monday’s second round after sustaining an injury on the front nine followed by a misinterpretation of the rules by freshman Gonzalo Leal Montero on the back nine, which resulted in a disqualification. Montero was in second place on the individual leaderboard prior to the disqualification.

Even though the Hawkeyes are unable to post a team score in tomorrow’s final round, all six Hawkeyes will finish play in Tuesday’s final round.

“We are extremely disappointed with today’s outcome,” said Iowa head men’s golf coach Tyler Stith. “It doesn’t change the fact we performed brilliantly in extremely tough conditions. In our minds we are still trying to win tomorrow. We won’t go home with a trophy but we are playing to be our best and the best.”

Redshirt junior Alex Moorman fired an eagle and three birdies in round two for an 18-hole score of 73 (+1). He is tied ninth with a two-round total of 145 (+1).

Junior Benton Weinberg carded five birdies on Monday’s second round to finish with a score of 73 (+1) and 36-hole score of 146 (+2).

Junior Alex Schaake moved up 16 spots on the leaderboard after posting a 73 (+1) today. Schaake is tied 19th with a 36-hole score of 148 (+4).

Senior Aaron DeNucci is tied 51st with a two-round score of 155 (+11).
