Looper Resigns as Iowa's Head Softball Coach

IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa Henry B. and Patricia B. Tippie Director of Athletics chair Gary Barta announced Wednesday that Marla Looper resigned her position as UI head softball coach to pursue other professional opportunities.

Looper recently completed her eighth season as head coach. 

“We appreciate all of Marla’s contributions the past eight years,” said Barta. “Marla has served Iowa and her student-athletes well and we wish her all the best in her future endeavors.”

“I have been fortunate to work with some amazing young women throughout my eight years,” said Looper. “They have excelled on the field, and in the classroom and community. I am thankful for the opportunity I have had to serve at Iowa and lead the women’s softball program.”

A national search for the new head softball coach, chaired by Deputy Director of Athletics Barbara Burke, will begin immediately.
