Iowa to Host Old Capitol Futures Tournament

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa is teaming up with the United States Tennis Association ‘Futures’ circuit for the first time since 1986.

The Old Capitol Futures tournament will be held from July 14-22 at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Center (HTRC) in Iowa City. The tournament starts on July 14 with qualifying rounds beginning at 10 a.m. After these rounds are complete, the main draw and doubles play begin on July 17. The championship matches take place on July 20 for doubles and July 22 for singles. Draws will be released later this week on oldcapitolfutures.com.

The International Tennis Federation (ITF) men’s circuit offers more than 600 tournaments across more than 70 countries. In this year’s pro circuit, it will feature 64 qualifying and 32 main draw professional players, as well as 16 doubles teams. The professionals come from all over the world and will compete against every Iowa tennis student-athlete on the roster. 

“A great opportunity for our guys to be able to compete in a professional tournament against some the best players in the world at home in Iowa City,” said Mellecker Family Head Men’s Tennis Coach Ross Wilson.
