IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa junior forward Tyler Cook is participating in the Nike Basketball Academy in Thousand Oaks, California. The event started Wednesday and runs through Sunday.
The Nike Basketball Academy provides Cook the opportunity to train alongside some of the best past and present NBA players and coaches. The prestigious skills development camp is limited to 25 of the nation’s top collegiate players, which includes a combine experience, drills, off-court workouts, film sessions, and competition.
“This environment is unbelievable,” said Cook. “The intensity and energy is extremely high. I am having a great time, but more importantly, I am improving and learning.”
Cook led the Hawkeyes in both scoring (15.3) and rebounding (6.8) as a sophomore. He ranked seventh in the Big Ten in double-doubles (7), eighth in field goal percentage (.566), 11th in scoring average (15.3), and 12th in rebounding (6.8). The St. Louis native tallied 20 points or more a team-best nine times in 2017-18, seven of which came against Big Ten opponents. Cook was recognized as an honorable mention All-Big Ten performer as a sophomore and was voted to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team in 2017.
Cook is the fourth Hawkeye in five years to be invited to this elite basketball camp, joining Aaron White (2014), Jarrod Uthoff (2015), and Peter Jok (2016).
Since 2007, Nike Basketball has hosted the best high school and collegiate players for position skills academies, along with top athletes in the NBA.
