Rowing Qualifies for 3rd Straight NCAA Championships

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa rowing team has been selected to participate in the 2019 NCAA Rowing Championships in Indianapolis on May 31-June 2. The NCAA announced the 22-team field Tuesday afternoon.

Iowa was one of 11 at-large teams selected to join the 11 automatic qualifiers from last weekend’s conference championships. Each team will send a I Eight, II Eight, and I Four boat to the event. Iowa is seeded 10th in the I Varsity Eight, 19th in the II Varsity Eight, and 16th in the I Varsity Four.

Iowa is making its third straight NCAA appearance and fourth overall. Iowa placed ninth in 2001, 15th in 2017, and 11th in 2018 with a school record 69 points.

Iowa is joined by five Big Ten teams, including Michigan, Indiana, Ohio State, Rutgers, and Wisconsin.

Iowa enters the NCAA Championships ranked 12th in the USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Division I Collegiate Rowing Poll (May 15). Iowa has been ranked a program-best 27 straight weeks.
