IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa junior first baseman/outfielder Zeb Adreon was named Big Ten Player of the Week and freshman infielder Brendan Sher was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Adreon and Sher helped the Hawkeyes go 3-1 during the week with a midweek, walk-off win over Milwaukee and a series win over Ohio State for Iowa’s fifth straight Big Ten series win — the most consecutive series wins since 2015.

Adreon, a Pleasantville, Iowa native, doubled in three straight games against Ohio State and hit .556 (5-for-9) with three runs scored and five RBIs in four games to earn his first career weekly honor. Adreon blasted his first career home run in the top of the ninth of Iowa’s series-opening 4-2 win over Ohio State. He stayed hot, going 2-for-2 with three RBIs in game two — his third career game with 3+ RBIs — and 1-for-2 in the series finale.

Adreon is Iowa’s first Player of the Week honor since Jake Adams in 2017.

Sher started four straight games, hit .400 (6-for-15), and posted a .667 slugging percentage to earn his first career weekly honor. Against Milwaukee, Sher recorded his first career three-hit game, going 3-for-5 with a double with two runs scored, including the game-tying run in the 11th inning. The Indianola, Iowa, native hit his first career home run in Iowa’s 4-2 win over Ohio State in game one before posting his second multi-hit game of the week in game two, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Sher is Iowa’s first Freshman of the Week since Robert Neustrom in 2016.

The duo is the team’s second and third player to earn Big Ten weekly honors this season.  Junior Grant Judkins was the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 18.

The Hawkeyes (26-16, 11-7) have two midweek contests scheduled this week against Western Illinois on Tuesday at home with a 6:05 p.m. (CT) first pitch, followed by a neutral-site, nonconference game versus Northwestern at 7:05 p.m. (CT) in Rosemont, Illinois, at Impact Field.
