VALENCIA, Spain — Senior Amanda Ollinger netted 13 points and pulled down 11 rebounds in Iowa’s 69-61 Foreign Tour victory over Valencia on Tuesday evening.
“Amanda Ollinger played really well tonight,” said head coach Lisa Bluder. “I think it was one of her best games ever. She did such a great job on the boards, she did a great job defensively. We dominated the boards tonight and played a lot better.”
Iowa trailed 17-12 at the end of the first quarter, but responded quickly in the second. The Hawkeyes forced a pair of turnovers and went on a 6-0 run over 16 seconds early in the second period to grab the lead. The Iowa defense held Valencia to six points in the second quarter, outscoring the All-Stars, 16-6.
“We had more energy tonight than we had the first game,” said Bluder. “We were a little bit tired. Of course, it was good to have Kathleen (Doyle) back. She provides us with that leadership and that energy with the things she does, especially on the defensive side of things.”
The Hawkeyes shot 46.2 percent from the field over the final 20 minutes to clinch the victory and move to 1-1 in Foreign Tour action.
IOWA LEADERS
Ollinger and redshirt freshman Kate Martin led the team with 13 points each. Senior Makenzie Meyer had 12 points, including 10 points over the final 20 minutes of game action.
Ollinger led the team on the glass, pulling down 11 rebounds. Sophomore Monika Czinano registered eight boards, including four on the offensive glass.
“The team bounced back really well,” said Ollinger. “We learned a lot from our first game and I think that showed on the court today.
“We have a very different looking team than we had the first couple of years. I think everyone is doing a good job of being their best selves and in turn being the best teammate they can be.”
In her return, senior Kathleen Doyle scored seven points, dished out a team-high five assists, registered two steals, and pulled down four rebounds.
STAT STUFFER
Ollinger registered 13 points, 11 rebounds (3 offensive), three assists, three blocks, and a steal. She was 3-for-5 from the field, 1-for-1 from 3-point range, and 6-for-10 from the free throw line.

The Hawkeyes travel to Barcelona tomorrow. Iowa closes out its Foreign Tour game action on Friday with a matchup against the Mataro All-Stars.
