Hawkeyes Open 2019 Fall Season at Gopher Invite

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa women’s tennis program begins its fall season this weekend at the Gopher Invitational at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
 
The tournament will be played Friday-Sunday at the Baseline Tennis Center. Matches start at 9 a.m. (CT) each day with doubles matches followed by singles matches. Weather permitting both indoor and outdoor courts will be used.
 
The Hawkeyes are sending five student-athletes to Minnesota. Juniors Ashleigh Jacobs, Danielle Burich, Danielle Bauers, sophomore Cloe Ruette, and freshman Erika Dodridge.
 
Results will be available at hawkeyesports.com and gophersports.com. A live stream of indoor courts 1-6 will be available at youtube.com/user/GopherAthletics/feed.
 
The tournament is the first on Iowa’s 2019-20 schedule. Iowa hosts 11 matches at the HTRC in 2020, beginning with Old Dominion on Feb. 14. Its spring season-opener is Jan. 18 in Ft. Myers, Florida against Southern Alabama.
 
The Hawkeyes come off a season in which they earned a final ITA Ranking of No. 65 and won 13 matches, their second highest total in eight years. Of those 13 wins eight came at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex (HTRC).
 
Iowa’s schedule boasts 14 opponents ranked in the top 75 from last spring’s final ITA Rankings. The Hawkeyes will host six of those teams at the HTRC (#14 Michigan, #25 Ohio State, #28 Northwestern, #31 Illinois, #41 Old Dominion, #60 Kansas State).
 
The Hawkeyes play Iowa State in the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series on Feb. 28 in Des Moines, Iowa.
 
The Hawkeyes return seven student-athletes from last year’s squad and welcome one freshman, Dodridge.
