IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa women’s tennis team shutout Northern Iowa on Saturday evening, 7-0. This is the Hawkeyes sixth straight shutout of Northern Iowa.
The Hawkeyes took the doubles point with strong performances from the number one and two positions. Michelle Bacalla and Ashleigh Jacobs defeated Emma Carr and Kim Zizek, 7-5. Danielle Bauers and Elise van Heuvelen Treadwell beat Harri Proudfoot and Valentia Caro, 6-2.
The Hawkeyes used the momentum from doubles to win all six singles matches in straight sets. Van Heuvelen Treadwell picked up her sixth win in a row and her team leading ninth of the season at the number one position defeating Proudfoot, 6-0, 6-0.
Samantha Mannix beat Carr 6-4, 7-5. Bacalla defeated Zizek 6-2, 6-1. Jacobs defeated Madeline Doherty 6-2, 6-1. Bauers bested Thaissa Moreira 6-3, 6-4. Freshman Erika Dodridge picked up her first career home win, defeating Caro 6-1, 6-0.
“It feels amazing really, it was super emotional when on match point I won that. Gave my teammate DB a big hug, and it was a special moment really,” said Dodridge. “Winning at home is definitely an extremely special experience, words can’t really describe it. Super cool. Super fun.”

“I think it is always great to be at home and to get a win. Especially after the emotional match we had last night, and falling short. It kind of leaves a bad taste in your mouth, and it’s nice to get a win so you can regroup and move forward.”
