IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa women’s basketball team was selected as a No. 4 seed in the NCAA Women’s Basketball Selection Committee’s second top-16 reveal. The announcement was made Monday on ESPN2.

If the season ended today, the Hawkeyes would be the No. 13 overall seed, and host the NCAA First and Second Rounds in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

Iowa finished the regular season at 23-6 overall and 14-4 in the Big Ten Conference.

The Hawkeyes own the third-best field goal percentage in the country, shooting at a 49.0 percent clip in 29 games. Iowa is also ranked fifth nationally in assists (584) and assists per game (20.1).

The Hawkeyes are led by senior Kathleen Doyle. The La Grange Park, Illinois, native was named the Big Ten Player of the Year earlier today. Doyle averaged 19.8 points, a conference-best 6.3 assists, and shot 47.2 percent from the field in Big Ten contests this season. She registered double figures in all of Iowa’s 18 league games, including two 30-point games and seven additional 20-point games.

Doyle was also named a unanimous first team All-Big Ten selection. Sophomore center Monika Czinano earned first team recognition from the media and second team accolades from the coaches. Senior guard Makenzie Meyer was named a second team honoree by both the coaches and media, while McKenna Warnock was named to the All-Big Ten Freshman Team (coaches).

The No. 19/20 Hawkeyes open the 2020 Big Ten Tournament on Friday. Iowa faces the winner of Thursday’s matchup between sixth-seeded Ohio State and the winner of Wednesday’s matchup between Minnesota (11 seed) and Penn State (14 seed).
