IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa field hockey senior Maddy Murphy has been named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, it was announced Monday by the league office. The honor is the second of Murphy’s career.
The Riana, Tasmania, native earned the distinction after scoring two goals and tallying two assists in Hawkeye victories over No. 11 Wake Forest and No. 1 North Carolina last weekend in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.
Murphy scored Iowa’s first goal of the season and registered two assists in the team’s season-opening 5-3 victory over the Demon Deacons. She followed it up by scoring the first goal in the 3-1 win over the top-ranked Tar Heels – Iowa’s first over UNC since 2008.
Iowa went 2-0 in the B1G/ACC Challenge for the first time in program history. The event started in 2002.
Murphy’s first career honor came on Oct. 15, 2018, when she shared the Offensive Player of the Week accolade.
Iowa returns to action Saturday, traveling to Boston for a neutral site game against New Hampshire beginning at 2 p.m. (CT). The Hawkeyes will also face Boston on Sunday at 11 a.m.
