Hawkeyes Open Tulane Classic

NEW ORLEANS – The University of Iowa women’s golf team sits in 13th place (+40) following the opening round of the Tulane Classic at the English Turn Golf and Country Club.

The Hawkeyes were led by freshman Paula Miranda and senior Manuela Lizarazu, who are both tied for 36th place with a nine-over par 81. Miranda recorded seven pars in her first nine holes and sat at +3 after nine. The Mexico native added two more pars and one birdie on her back nine.

Lizarazu had four birdies and six pars and sat at +1 through her first nine holes.

Senior Dana Lerner and junior Lea Zeitler are both tied for 56th with 83s.

Iowa is 10 shots out of seventh place. North Texas leads the field with a 300 (+12).

OF NOTE…
– Miranda played the par 4s at three-over par for a 4.30 average.
– Lizarazu had three birdies during the opening round, which were tied for the seventh most in the field.
– Zeitler carded 10 pars, which were tied for 14th.
