Hawkeyes Set to Compete at Sunshine State Invite

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa rowing team is set to travel to Sarasota, Florida, to compete in the Sunshine State Invite on Friday and Saturday, at Nathan Benderson Park.

The Hawkeyes will compete in 2k heats on Friday, followed by finals on Saturday. The large field features 16 teams: Boston College, Drexel, Iowa, Jacksonville, Kansas, Kansas State, Louisville, North Carolina, Miami (FL), Michigan State, Old Dominion, Stetson, Tulsa, UCF, UMass, and West Virginia.

The Hawkeyes and Hurricanes are the two teams in the field that are receiving votes from the CRCA Pocock Coaches Poll.

Iowa looks to build off their progress made over winter training.

Quoting Head Coach Jeff Garbutt
“We are very excited to be traveling to Sarasota for the Sunshine State Invite. It will be our first weekend of 2k racing and the team is eager to get to work and see our progress from winter training. Coach Lane, at Jacksonville, does an outstanding job of getting schools to attend and this year might be his best field ever. The races will be livestreamed, and I am excited for our athletes’ families that won’t be in Florida to be able to watch us race. Go Hawks!”
