University of Iowa rowing is headed to Wisconsin to compete in the Big Ten Championships on Sunday, May 19 on Devil’s Lake. The eight-team Big Ten Championships marks the fourth women’s rowing event to take place at Devil’s Lake since 2015. The Badgers’ also raced there on Oct. 18, 2015, against Minnesota, and played host to the Big Ten/Big 12 Invite on April 23, 2016, with the Badgers, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Kansas and Iowa taking part. Wisconsin also played host to the 2019 Big Ten Rowing Championships at Devil’s Lake

The Hawkeyes will face tough opponents No. 9 Michigan, Michigan State, RV Minnesota, No. 12 Ohio State, No. 13 Rutgers, No. 14 Indiana, and Wisconsin. The Michigan Wolverines won the 2023 Big Ten Rowing Championship.

ABOUT THE HAWKEYES
– Iowa reached new heights in the 2023 Championship season totaling 17 outright victories.
– Iowa’s Varsity Eight earned Big 10 Boat of the Week on April 16, 2024.
– This honor marks the 18th time in school history that the program has brought home a weekly honor from the conference office. It was the first since April 18, 2023.
– The Hawkeyes collected a season-high 12 wins at the Big Ten/Big 12 Invite over Kansas, Kansas State, Minnesota, and Oklahoma.
– Placed fifth at the 2023 Big Ten Championships for the second consecutive season earning 90 points, 15 more points from the previous year.
– Senior, Abbey Klostermann was named to the 2023 All-District Women’s At-Large Team, selected by College Sports Communicators, which recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances in the athletic realm and in the classroom.
– Had three All-Big Ten selections in 2023.
CLIMBING THE RANKS

LAST TIME OUT: LAKE WHEELER INVITATIONAL
On the first day of the Lake Wheeler Invite, Iowa’s II Varsity Four secured two first place finishes in the morning and afternoon sessions. On the last day of competition, the II Varsity Four stuck out, once again, and placed second against top-ranked teams. The Hawkeyes ended up placing seventh overall with 32 points.
B1G TEN INVITATIONAL RECAP
On the first day of the Big Ten Invite, the Hawkeyes secured a victory from the II Varsity Eight and followed that up with five second place finishes. Iowa’s II V8 dropped Minnesota, Notre Dame, and Oklahoma. On the final day of the competition, Iowa picked up three victories from the IV Varsity Eight, II Varsity Four, and III Varsity Four.
2024 NCAA ROWING CHAMPIONSHIPS
The winner of the 2024 Big Ten Rowing Championships will receive an automatic bid into the 22-team NCAA championships that take place May 31 – June 2 in Bethel, Ohio. Additional Big Ten squads can earn NCAA bids as an at-large team. That announcement will come on Tuesday, May 21 at 4 p.m. CT via a streamed selection show at NCAA.com. At the NCAA championships, team’s race a varsity eight, second varsity eight and varsity four.
