No. 6 Hawkeyes Defeat Fighting Blue Hens

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The No. 6 ranked University of Iowa field hockey team defeated Delaware on Sunday afternoon at Grant Field. The Hawkeyes defeated the Fighting Blue Hens, 1-0.

“That’s a very good Delaware team,” said head coach Lisa Cellucci. “I’m sure they’ll win a lot of games and be the champions of the CAA. Felt really good about getting out of it and just actually getting the win. We had a really good scout on them, and we felt the team did a really good job. We’re choosing to cause some stress in some situations we don’t really need to, so we addressed that, but that’s going to happen with our youth at times. I think the best thing about this weekend and today is that we’ve been tested a lot of different ways in our first five games and it has prepared us really well going into the Big Ten season.”

The Hawkeyes outshot the Fighting Blue Hens, nine to three, and attempted six corners to Delaware’s one.

Annika Herbine had the Hawkeyes lone goal, with the assist going to Lieve van Kessel in the 18th minute.

Mia Magnotta made one save in net and the Iowa defense recorded its third straight shutout on Grant Field and its fourth of the season.
